Minecraft star Stampy Cat to give an RSE Christmas lecture

YouTube and Minecraft legend Stampy Cat is to deliver a lecture in front of 2,000 students in Dundee.



Stampy - whose real name is Joseph Garrett - will give the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Christmas lecture in the city's Caird Hall on Monday.



His YouTube channel has more than 6.7 million subscribers.



The lecture next Thursday will only be available on BBC iPlayer.



BBC Scotland said Minecraft fans will, for the very first time, be able to see Stampy demonstrate how he creates his videos during a meeting with Dundee games entrepreneur Chris van der Kuyl. souldevteam



Stampy will discuss the making of his Christmas special and give viewers an insight into his life and a career which has seen him become one of the world's most popular YouTubers.



Van der Kuyl said that Stampy was the "epitome digital native of the 21st century" who could inspire viewers regardless of age.



"Stampy is an inspiring persona for a whole new generation who can clearly see that the future of careers will be based on a unique blend of talents, creativity , and technical abilities that can all be mastered," he said.



The RSE lecture will be given as part of BBC Make it Digital, an initiative designed to promote digital creativity among young people.
