A rare early version of Minecraft, long thought to be lost, was rediscovered over 10 years after its release. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released for the first Java Edition in September 2010 and was only accessible for a little over three hours. Now it's finally been found again by gaming archivists.

Over the years there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously gathered and archived a lot of them to ensure their preservation. However one particular version, called Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday was thought completely lost. It introduced fishing rods and the ability to sneak into Minecraft. However, it was found to have a game-breaking bug which made the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

The entire story of its rediscovery was revealed over Twitter by user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the lost Alpha 1.1.1. Luna explains that Alpha 1.1.1 was a popular meme or holy treasure in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. Minecraft Gallery Nobody thought they would discover it.

Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets and inquired about it and she discovered an old backup of minecraft.jar dated the same as Alpha 1.1.1's release date of September 18 in 2010. Luna confirmed that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and posted about it on Omniarchive and it was later taken down.

So I made a post in Omniarchive and it would be an understatement for me to say that some people were noticing.

The reactions are enough to make you realize how massive this discovery is. I feel like I'm shaking.
