What is a SIMLOCK

SIM lock:

A sim-lock, NETWORK-LOCK, CARRIER-LOCK, IMEI LOCK or (MASTER) SUBSIDY lock is actually a technical constraint built into GSM and CDMA smartphones by producers for use by carriers to restrict using these phones to specific locations and/or networks. This is as opposed to a mobile phone (retrospectively called SIM-free or unlocked) that does not enforce any SIM constraints.

Nearly all cell phones can be unlocked to work with any GSM network provider, though the phone might still show the original logos and may not support popular features of the new service provider. In addition to the locking, mobile phones could also have firmware set up on them which is specific to the mobile phone network provider. This firmware is installed through the service provider and is separate from the locking mechanism. A lot of cell phones can be unbranded by re-flashing an alternative firmware type, a procedure suitable for advanced users only.

Unlocking Technology:

A device can be unlocked simply by entering a code supplied by the network operator. Alternative mechanisms incorporate software operating on the device or a computer connected to the device, hardware devices that link to the handset or over-the-air by the carrier. Typically the unlock process is permanent. The code required to do away with all locks from a cellphone is referred to as the master code, network code key, or multi-lock code. If the phone is carrier locked it will usually show one of these messages: SIM network PIN blocked, Enter lock PIN.

Economics:

Handset providers have financial incentives both to enhance SIM lock protection (which placates mobile phone network providers and allows exclusivity offers) and to weaken it (expanding a mobile's appeal to users who are usually not interested in the service provider that offers it). In addition, making it too difficult to unlock a device could possibly make it a lot less desirable to network service providers that have a legal responsibility to provide unlock codes for certain devices or in selected countries.

Unlocking Services:

Some organizations provide a imei cell phone unlocking service . This service calls for those people who need to unlock a handset to supply their IMEI number to a unlocking company and quite often they will also ask for the country and service provider the mobile is locked to, sometimes sent by email or entered on their website. The company then will provide (for a fee) an unlock code for the mobile phone handset.

Unlocking Service Providers:

Regrettably there are a multitude of fraudulent on line retailers active in the smart-phone imei unlocking industry. As a result it pays off to be sure you find a genuine supplier for such a service. To assist with the search for a legitimate supplier, we have provided a listing just below (and in no particular order) of several legitimate organizations currently offering such services.
