More than ten years after its release, a rare early version of Minecraft was believed to have disappeared. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released in September of 2010 for the first time in Java Edition. It was only available for three hours. Gaming historians have discovered it.

Over the years, there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously gathered and archived many of them to preserve. One version, Alpha 1.1.1, or Seecret Saturday was thought to be lost. It introduced fishing rods and sneaking to Minecraft. However, it was found to have a game-breaking bug which would make the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

@lunasorcery, via Kotaku and Kotaku, shared the entire story of its rediscovery on Twitter. Luna explains that Alpha 1.1.1 was a popular meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. None of them expected to discover it.

Someone came across one of Luna's old tweets and inquired about it. She finally discovered a backup of minecraft.jar that was the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna checked the file and confirmed that it was Alpha 1.1.1, which she then published on Omniarchive and it exploded.

So I posted in Omniarchive, and it would not be an understatement for me to say that some people were noticing.

The reactions are enough to make you realize just how important this discovery is. I literally begin shaking.
