Teenager Arrested Over Mass School Bomb Hoax

Following a massive bomb hoax that shut down hundreds of schools and colleges across the UK, an alleged teenager in the middle of an Minecraft gamers' feud was detained.



Hertfordshire police detained the 19-year-old after 24,000 threatening emails to schools were sent warning of a bomb attack , and asking for cash.



The emails were spoofed to appear as if they were sent by a gaming network known as VeltPvP. VeltPvP is a Minecraft player-versus-player server is the same service that businesses use to sell their products to gamers.



A teenager believed to be at the heart of an Minecraft gamers' squabble was arrested following a mass bomb hoax closed hundreds of schools across the UK. Hertfordshire police arrested the 19-year-old after 24,000 emails were sent out to schools informing them of the threat of attack.



These emails were sent to disable VeltPvP and were intended to cause the abuse of the domain to be suspended.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) said there was 'no credible threat to the emails' that were received this week.

In a statement, they said: 'We understand teachers and parents concerns, but we want to stress that there was no threat of serious consequence to the school's emails.



We are however taking these communications very seriously. As this is a live investigation, we cannot comment further.'



Following the bomb hoax emails, signs were placed outside Cardinal Road School in Feltham



The parties involved in the fight said that their adversaries had engaged in illegal activities to hinder one another's businesses.



"It's awful It's not the best thing', one of the hoaxers involved stated when asked if they regretted the effect the letters had had on the school children forced to evacuated.



In blaming VeltPvP the hoaxer claimed the network had enaged in a series of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which he claims were employed to attempt to block other rival Minecraft servers.



Parents were asked to collect their children following the threat of a bomb hoax email



In a statement, VeltPvP said: 'We've been harassed by a group of cybercriminals that are trying to smear us in every way they can.



"We are deeply sorry for those who were affected by this, but we want to inform you that it is fake."



The email was sent to more than 400 schools and colleges across the nation. It claimed that an explosive had been planted and would explode if money was not provided.



Cardinal Road School in Feltham west of London was one of the schools who received the hoax email



Police forces in London, Bristol, Liverpool, Bedfordshire and the the North East were among those conducting an investigation.



Parents have requested to be allowed to pick up their children from school amid concerns about the emails.



Six schools in Hertfordshire were also affected: Abbots Hill, Valley School, Stevenage, The Sele School, Duncombe School, Stanborough School, Watford, St Albans High School and Valley School. Minecraft Online
