Minecraft Education Edition Released In November

After a summer of test runs, the full version of Minecraft: Education Edition will officially launch on the 1st of November. The service will require a five-dollar annual membership per user or a districtwide license. However the Early Access edition will still be available for free until the end of November.



According to the MinecraftEdu team, over 35,000 students and teachers from around the world have been playing in the sandbox in Minecraft since the application went live at the start of the summer. With the official launch, the team has added a number of new education-focused features like the "Classroom Mode" that offers an in-depth view of the Minecraft world through an accompanying app. Teachers can manage world settings and interact with students in-game, give out items or even teleport their children around the map with one interface. The education edition will be updated as the main Minecraft world develops. Teachers are encouraged to give feedback and feature suggestions.



Finally, for any teachers who haven't stepped into Minecraft's blocky world yet, education.minecraft.net offers some starter worlds, tutorials, free lesson plans in subjects ranging from storytelling to city planning, and a mentoring program to connect them with other educators.
