Ex-senator of the Republic and former mayor in Bogota has won the victory with the Historic Pact coalition. Officially the former mayor is now running for the presidency which he hopes to achieve for the third time.

Petro declared his intention to reform the pension system through the creation of the position of a public administrator to oversee pension funds. This would allow Petro to mix the public and private funds to create a "mixed and complementary system."

He stated that Colombia has no pension system, but instead a system that is based on bank profit. This is the reason that many believe would make him the most likely candidate to become the Presidency. Petro has recently said that he will not eliminate pensions, but would try to reform the pension system in Colombia in order achieve a minimum level of pensions for Colombians. He said "no need" for an increase in the pension age.
