Anyone can download Minecraft: Education Edition for free! There are two ways to try Minecraft Education Edition for free, either through the free trial or through the demo lesson. You will require an account in order to take advantage of the trial for free, either an Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 account. You don't need an account or log-in to use the demo lesson. This article explains how you can use the demo lesson and the free trial.



Technical requirements



Minecraft: Education Edition is compatible with Chromebook, iPad and Mac. To make sure that Minecraft: Education Edition is compatible with your device, please read the System Requirements article.



About the trial trial for free



The trial version for free is fully functional and includes all the features of the paid version. The trial is compatible to Code Connection and Classroom Mode. These features are described in the Get Started with Code Connection and Get Started with Classroom Mode articles.



The trial is limited to the number of logins (25 for teachers who have an Office 365 Education account and 10 for all other users) before the purchase of a paid subscription is required to continue playing. Trial logins aren't able to be refreshed. Contact our support team immediately if you have any questions. After your trial logins have been used, Minecraft: Education Edition is available to purchase.

Follow these steps if you have an Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 account to avail the free trial.



Select the Minecraft: Education Edition version you want to download from the Get Minecraft download page. The Minecraft: Education Edition version you downloaded must be installed. Start and sign in to Minecraft: Education Edition using your Office 365 Education account information (this may be your school email) or with your Microsoft 365 account information. If you...

You must have a valid account

About the demo lessons



Demo lessons allow you to test Minecraft: Education Edition for free and without an account. Each demo lesson is limited in capabilities, for instance, worlds and progress cannot be saved, and it's not possible to host or join a multiplayer game. Demo lessons give you to experience the real-world lessons in Minecraft: Education Edition. You can experience each lesson as often as you'd like.



Start a demo lesson



Follow these steps to try an online lesson



Select the Minecraft: Education Edition version you want to download from the Get Minecraft download page. Install Screamyguy's blog of Minecraft: Education Edition that you downloaded. Start Minecraft: Education Edition. At the Welcome to Minecraft Education Edition screen, select If you don't have an account, create one. To read the license agreement, choose View Terms. Select Accept Terms and then Play when ready to play. Select Start Lesson. Note: Lessons with the lock overlay can be accessed by signing into the game using an authorized account or one that is suitable for an evaluation.
